HB 153, relating to the promotion of students to certain grade levels in public schools, filed 11/10/2008

HB 153, authored by Representative Olivio, amends the Texas Education Code and establishes procedures for testing, remedial training, assessment and reporting to parents of 3rd, 5th and 8th grade students who fail to perform satisfactorily on assessment instruments specified by the Texas Education Code. The bill also authorizes formation of committees to independently evaluate the students readiness for promotion with authority to promote despite failures to satisfactorily perform on the assessment instruments.
