HB 429, relating to a competitive grant program to fund promotion of early literacy programs in certain communities in this state, filed 12/18/2008

HB 429, authored by Representative Susan King, amends the Texas Education Code and establishes a competitive grant program administered by the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at Houston to promote and implement across the state the Reach Out and Read Literacy Program. Further, this bill establishes criteria for awards and reporting requirements by the Health Sciences Center. Companion to SB 382 by Van de Putte and Zaffirini.
